Is it just me or is this one of the best song Kristin has ever written?
(Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall reading on the other forum that "Flooding" was going to be on "Speedbath". If that's correct, I guess we can expect a different version, right?)
finally we got "Flooding", and in an unexpected piano version. this song's beauty is undescribable. i've said it in old posts, and i've just said it again on kristin's blog and i'll repeat it here: one of the best songs she's ever written. almost thirty years writing songs non-stop and her material never fails to be strangely moving or surprising. but "Flooding" is huge.
(and yes, Wojtek, she confirmed it would be on 'Speedbath'; i hope we get an alternative version that's closer to the solo live performance, just because i loved the rawness of it)
I would guess that version on Speedbath will be the one that was bouncing around Kristin's head, as she put it. This was just recorded this month from the sounds of it, and the final speedbath recording was already done I believe. But who knows. I LOVE this version of the song, its so sad when its on guitar, i can't believe how much sadder and dreamier it gets on piano. I am so anxious to hear Speedbath the final version, and also to find out where all the other material ends up and how it gets revamped. So much goodness its hard to believe!
I really hope the "Speedbath" version is close to what Kristin played live. As much as I love the piano version, I would be thrilled to have a studio recording with the guitar -- especially since "Flooding" seems to be one of these songs that work just as well with pretty much any arrangement.

I think I actually prefer the guitar version she's been playing live recently, and I was really surprised to hear a piano version, but it still shows you what a great song it is. This version kinda reminds me of "Beestung". Whatever she does with it, I really hope she keeps the sound of the horse screaming at the end of the track. It's so eerily fitting somehow.
This song absolutely demolished me. Normally, I enjoy Kristin's downloads by listening to them several times in a row but after this I just had to sit in silence for a while. Not knowing the live version I was not expecting that at all.
(If anyones interested, in my post-Flooding, spaced-out state I ended up sitting with my guitar for a while: this is about as close as I come to a musical music review. Or something.)
when did she say it was definitely going to be on the album? I know we had heard that any of the songs from the 2008 or 2009 CASH series might end up on the final track list, but I'd never heard a definite decision about ANY of them - including Speedbath, as BillyO recently said, that might not even be what the album title ends up as. I can't decide which version I like better, guitar or piano - I hope the album version stays piano-oriented and the guitar version can be a nice live surprise.
This piano version gives me the same vibe as Sno Cat, which has such a direct marriage of image and mood. This is one of those "pure" Kristin songs. Shifting from guitar to piano is inspired.
Also, Mark: I enjoyed your music! It would make for a great two-verse little song. Try to match a few lyrics.
